Admin supports GTIN suggestions and autocomplete.
A GTIN is the globally unique number behind most retail barcodes, and sales channels like Google use it to match your listings to the right product.
Shopify now checks your barcodes against the GS1 registry, the organization that issues GTINs, and helps you mark the ones that are real.
What's new
- Autocomplete as you type: When you add a new barcode that looks like a GTIN, Shopify looks it up in the GS1 registry. If your GTIN is registered with GS1, the barcode is marked as
GTINfor you, with a highlight so you can see what changed. - Suggestions for barcodes you've already saved: Saved
Custombarcodes that look like GTINs show a suggestion. Accept it to change the type toGTIN, or dismiss it. - A heads-up when the registry disagrees: If GS1 has the barcode registered to a product, hover over it to compare your vendor and product name with GS1's record. This is for your information only. You don't need to change your product title, vendor or description to match GS1.
- Accept suggestions in bulk: In the products and inventory bulk editors, accept every GTIN suggestion at once, or dismiss them all.
What stays the same
Nothing here blocks you from saving. Shopify never changes a barcode you've already saved unless you accept the suggestion. You can still choose any barcode type yourself, including Custom for internal codes.
GTIN suggestions, autocomplete and registry warnings are only signals to help you check your barcodes. Ignoring them won't affect your products or how you manage them in Shopify.
